I just came back from the Gothenburg Book Fair and it was amazing. I am full of impressions from the fair and oh so inspired to continue writing.
People ask me if I have started writing my second book and when it is coming out. I know I will write again, but then I doubt myself thinking, how will I find time and money to do it once more. After this fair there's no doubt in my mind. I must continue.
I find it fascinating that when you're in a certain place, setting and atmosphere, you just know it's right. There's this feeling, notion even a certain smell - and it all sings to you. You just want to stay with that emotion forever because it's magical. that little voice inside is doing summersaults. That's what it was like for me at the Book Fair. I landed, rediscovered myself and I kinda came home.
Apart from a need to keep writing I also discovered that if we open up, things will come our way, things we couldn't even imagine. We open up to a higher purpose and we get more genuine. It is so easy to think we need to be the master of all plans. Planning is all well, we need to plan to a certain level. But more importantly, we need to let go. If we do, we open up our hearts and find out that things happen in a way we never could’ve imagined. Things happen because we didn’t make plans. We open up. New ways of thinking, acting and living present themselves.
Let go and open up to magic!
When I took off to the book fair I decided to let go. I had no expectations, well ok, not entirely true. Having
no expectations doesn’t happen overnight. I am adjusting every day, every moment. In fact I also try to not be too hard on myself for "failing". I believe we lie if we say we have no expectations in life, but I had as little expectations as me, there and then, possibly could have.
I opened my heart.
And do you know what, it was not that hard actually, in fact it was exciting. I decided to organize things like hotel bookings, flights to and from Gothenburg, I printed some business cards and I brought a few copies of my book. But apart from that. No plans.
So what happened? I let magic into my life. I met writers and other people whom I never would’ve met otherwise. I received messages and insights from people just because I happened to be at the right place at the right time. I bumped into publishers and book store owners whom I wanted to meet and didn’t even know I wanted to meet. I listened to the most amazing poetry reading by this guy who spoke straight to my soul (and I don’t even like poetry, or at least I thought I didn’t) I talked to novice writers about giving out your first book and the struggles and joys in that. I even met one of my favorite authors who recently released a book on this topic: Create your own life by opening up to magic.
All this because I opened up my heart and let something bigger than me be the leader and guide in my life for a weekend.
So was the book fair a success?
Indeed so, but in a magical way.
