I find the more I live from heart, the closer I get to my core, my true me, the harder it is to cope with being in an unsupportive environment.
Environments in this argument are things like home, work, a course, certain groups of people, family, study groups, etc. But environments can also be things you feed yourself with like reading news, watching tv. It can also be just one person or even yourself.
I have always been sensitive to environments. Especially the ones that drain me of energy. Know the feeling of walking into a room feeling totally numb or cold? For no particular reason.
When you go from this general notion of knowing or sensing unsupportive environments to have a conscious awareness of them it is even harder. The awareness brings to such pain because not only can you sense it, you can also see clearly that you are doing bad to yourself by staying in these negative environments. It is almost like you are pushing yourself towards harmfulness. Forcing yourself to eat dirt.
But some bad environments are not all bad. Perhaps we need to be at work because it pays the bills. Perhaps you need to visit your grandparents, even though you’d rather not, because it also does you good. Perhaps you hang out with people who do you no good, because they’ve been your friends forever.
But what if you could reduce these worlds, or at least reduce the amount of time you spend there?
We need supportive environments. Life is a hard one as it is. Why pushing yourself to be in these environments where you feel depraved. Environments which don’t feed your soul and which don’t nurture your being?
Look araound and analyze your environments. Be kind to yourself and make sure you are surrounded by love and compassion. Not trial and negativity. At least not all the time.
Find new friends, go to work if you have to but see if you can be a positive environment bubble while you are there, minimize time with relatives you’d rather not be related to.
Reading the news? Do you have to? Does it light you up? Fill your soul with joy? Yes it is terrible with all that happens in the world at the moment. Compassion is very important. But does it make you stronger and more giving when you dwell upon one bad newsstory after another?
And do consider cutting some chords in life. Perhaps you will grow and be a better person for it.
You ar worth nothing but good!
